No Other Darkness out in paperback today

If you're on Twitter or Facebook, you can follow my blog tour and enter giveaways for free books. To kick things off, I'm over with Sara Crowley being silly about quinoa and tinned peaches. And with Vicky Newham being serious about psychology. Something for everyone.

Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year

So, this happened. To put it into context, first this happened. Then, on Thursday night, Mark Lawson and Simon Theakston presented me with The Barrel, the biggest crime fiction award in the UK. As I told The Guardian, I was gobsmacked. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and to the judges who included Alison Graham (Columnist of the Year) and Ann Cleeves who said, "For a debut novel it was astounding. Although the subject matter is really quite bloody and violent, there are no gratuitous descriptions – instead she has this dreadful sense of horror, but it is done delicately and subtly. It always stops just as your imagination takes over.”

My bookshelves are up on the You're Booked site today, where I'm talking about Lolita, Zuleika Dobson, Patricia Highsmith, Shredni Vashtar and how not-reading breeds bigots and bores.

Someone Else's Skin needs YOU!

I'm chuffed to bits that Someone Else's Skin (my first novel! The one that sprang Marnie Rome on the world!) is shortlisted for the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year Award. This is the bit where they throw it open to a public vote for 15 days, so it would be amazing if you could give it a leg up by voting (and getting friends, colleagues, acquaintances, strangers) to vote too. You have to give your name, city and email address, but otherwise it’s dead easy. Thanks!
