The auction is to raise funds for a terrific cause, helping children and young people affected by cancer. Proof copies went out before Christmas and one or two people have finished it already, which is impressive and a little nerve-wracking. Luckily, the only comments I've seen so far have been good ones. Like one from Northern Crime.

Best thrillers of 2014 in The Guardian

Alison Flood made me cry when she picked Someone Else's Skin as the Observer's Thriller of the Month on its publication in March. Now she's done it again, by picking it for this list of Best Thrillers of the Year, alongside Lauren Beukes and Sophie Hannah.

First-time UK novelist Sarah Hilary is another talent to be watched, her debut, Someone Else’s Skin (Headline £7.99), a standout of the year. The first in a series to star DI Marnie Rome, it is set around an attempted murder in a London women’s refuge but travels to even darker territory, as Rome confronts her own past and the murder of her parents by their foster son and falls into the sphere of real evil. Hilary vies with Beukes for most unsettling scene of the year.
