New flash just published

Bewildering Stories has my flash, Esmé and O’Ryan, up now. It's nice to see this one in situ. Often I cringe when something I wrote a long time ago turns up in 'print', but I'm marginally pleased with this effort. Should appeal to the space fans out there.

Great story, I love it. The monkey's revenge. And O'Ryan is the perfect name, isn't it interesting how characters just have to have certain names otherwise they are not who they are supposed to be?

Thanks, Tania, I'm delighted you liked it. O'Ryan = Orion = exactly what you said. It had to be.

Wonderful story. Whatever prompted you to write it?

Brian.

Thanks, Brian. I was researching the fate of Laika for a first novel, and found the stories of Ham and Minnie, renamed in my flash as Carl and Esme. The idea of the 'shock treatment' used in training - all absolutely factual - led me to musing on the inhumanity of man, and a prompt in a flash challenge over at WriteWords nudged me into writing it. I'm glad you liked it.
