I'm so proud!

Of my seven year old, who is one of only three children in her class of 30 at school who is reading at what they call 'stage 11' which, as far as I can tell, is about three years above the required reading for her age. Plus she's been given the job of trainee librarian at the school - a great honour as usually the school won't allow anyone below the age of nine to be responsible for the library. But she asked whether she could be a monitor and her new class teacher was so chuffed she created this trainee role. Way to bond with the new teacher.

Good for her! The world needs more bookworms, and I use that word as a most sincere compliment, for I consider myself to be one.

Here in the States, the education experts are talking about "digital reading" -- time kids spend with text on the internet -- but to me it just isn't the same.

I read on-line myself, what with all the electronic magazines and journals; but books will always be my first love and my preferred way to words.

Thanks, KC, I'm proud to be an old-fashioned bookworm, too. I think reading is vital to character development, social skills, peace of mind - you name it.

Thats wonderful, reminds me of how I was at her age, it's great to know that the electronic gadget-filled world hasn't erased the bookworm! Of course, with you for her mother, it's not so surprising!

Thanks, Tania, I'm glad you were a bookworm at an early age also. It's one of those 'acceptable stigmas', at least to my mind.
